Dogtrot House
Sitting atop a mountain saddle, this rustic modern farmhouse was designed to take in the natural beauty surrounding it.
The breezeway dividing two living spaces, also known as a dogtrot. Is a historic style common in the 19th & 20th century Southeast America.
This modern rendition of the classical dogtrot features a 60-foot-long clearstory, allowing natural daylight to shine down throughout the central living spaces.
The main cabin offers two living areas and features an open-concept kitchen, living, and dining room, complemented by a loft tucked behind the central fireplace. The primary bedroom boasts hillside views with a 270-degree panorama and includes a private elevated porch. The guest cabin, which includes two spacious bedrooms, features a large living area equipped with a wet bar for entertaining, as well as an additional loft.
Capler Homes, the projects builder, utilized locally sourced reclaimed materials for both the interior and exterior finishes. They even milled oak trees from the site to create the columns and decking. This approach ensures sustainable construction while paying tribute to the historic craftsmanship characteristic of an original dogtrot house.
