Stairs & Railing
Coordinating closely with our structural engineer, Viewrail, and the builder, this three-story stairwell stands at the center of the Virginia Beach house, crowned by a full-length skylight that floods the space with natural light and visually connects all three levels.
Easily the most complex railing system I’ve detailed, the Virginia Beach installation combined steel, glass, and UHPC to create a one-of-a-kind design. The result is a refined, structurally precise system that perfectly complements the home’s modern aesthetic and coastal setting.
The more traditional wood staircase designed for Bethel Point was originally planned with integrated storage below, but for budget reasons we pivoted to a clean nickel gap finish, maintaining a refined, cohesive look that still complements the home’s rustic modern character.
